Welcome to Object Central, the home of:
V C++ GUI Framework
The V IDE for GNU C++ and Java
The Essence of Object-Oriented Programming with Java and UML

This is the old version of ObjectCentral.com. While they are still available on SourceForge.net, I have discontinued further developemnt of VGUI and VIDE. My book is still available and relevant. Most of the other links and references on this old site are obsolete and out of date. So I've archived this site, and am re-inventing ObjectCentral and devoting more to Object-Oriented Web Development. I'll mostly be discussing tools and approaches to OO Web Development using PHP, JavaScript, MySQL, and AJAX techniques.

V GUI V - The Easiest Way to Write C++ GUI Applications
V is a free, multiple platform C++ graphical user interface framework designed to make it the easiest way to write C++ GUI applications available -- commercial, shareware, or freeware. V is available for X Athena, X Motif/Lesstif, all Windows platforms, and now including OS/2.

vide.jpg - 2048 Bytes The V IDE for GNU g++, Borland BCC 5.5, and Java
is an Integrated Development Environment developed using V. It works with the GNU g++ compiler and Sun's JDK for Java. VIDE is currently at release 1.21, and is available in executable form for MS-Windows and Intel Linux platforms. The VIDE executable is totally freeware, and the source is available under the GNU GPL as part of the V GUI Framework.

The Essence of Object-Oriented Programming with Java and UML
My object-oriented programming book, The Essence of Object-Oriented Programming with Java and UML, published by Addison-Wesley, is available from any book store that carries computer books, or you can order it now if you wish. Click the book icon at the left to read an online DRAFT version of the book. While the final published has significant revisions, this draft version still provides a good introduction to object-oriented programming.

Essential Object-Oriented and Programming Books
In the process of writing The Essence of Object-Oriented Programming with Java and UML, I've reviewed dozens of OO and programming books, and so here is my list of the essential OO books, as well as some other recommended programming books.

Object Central was founded by me, Dr. Bruce E. Wampler, to advance object-oriented programming. Besides providing the main site for V and VIDE, I want to provide relevant links for free C++ compilers and other free tools for programmers.

Object Central needs your help! I've run ObjectCentral for over 5 years now for free, but it has recently become a significant financial burden, and so I've decided to ask for voluntary donations to help me keep it going! These donations will help me to continue to support VIDE and V GUI. Anything, $10 or whatever you find appropriate, will help. I know everyone won't be able to help, but please donate if you can. Click on the PayPal button, and you can use your credit card to make a donation. Thanks!

Note: The links to the VIDE Help System I've replaced the help system with a set of links to the original sources soon. It had become too difficult to maintain current version of the help files.
